Programme at a glance
In three sessions several aspects of sustainable monitoring of gender equality in the physics community will be addressed. In each session, GENERA teams will present their findings and tools while there is ample time for discussion. To spark off the discussions for feedback from the audience of HR and physics managers and gender equality policy officers, the audience will be provided prior to the meeting with a few statements. Background information is already uploaded to the Indico page. Slides will be uploaded in due time.

09:00 Registration
09:30 - 12:00 Data acquisition and indicators for monitoring of gender equality in the physics community.
This session will be devoted to the first step in performance monitoring: reliable data acquisition.
GENERA teams will present their experience with acquiring gender related data from the physics community. Both statistical data and information from interviews were collected during the first stage of the project. The results of the work will be shared and preferred indicators for systematic monitoring the performance of gender equality plans in physics will be presented.
In discussions with the audience, the feasibility and technicalities of sharing the data at the European level will be addressed.
12:00 - 13:00 Monitoring the acceptance of gender equality plans by the physics community.
What works in physics and is acceptable both in the lab and by management? In this session, the aspect of monitoring the acceptance of gender equality plans in the physics community will be addressed. GENERA teams will present the results of an extensive literature review and findings from interviews within in the physics community of the GENERA partners. The potential of the national GENERA Gender-in-Physics days Gender-in-Physics days as model for monitoring the acceptance of gender equality plans in the community will be presented.
In discussions with the audience, possible unintended effects of gender equality plans in physics will be addressed as well as the cultural differences for acceptance of top-down gender equality plans at the ‘work floor’ in physics will be addressed.
13:00 Lunch and visit of the AMOLF, ARCNL or Nikhef research institutes.
For these NWO-research institutes, gender equality plans are being designed using the GENERA tools.
14:30 - 16:00 Next steps towards sustainable long-term monitoring of gender equality in the European physics community.
In this session, next steps towards sustainable monitoring of gender equality in the physics community is addressed. The UK Institute of Physics will present the potential of their Project JUNO as an excellent example of a from-physics-for-physics assessment and monitoring tool. GENERA teams will present the toolbox for implementation and performance monitoring of gender equality plans in the physics community. First ideas for future GENERA network activities and a formal Memorandum of Understanding for a monitoring network beyond the lifetime of GENERA will be presented.
In discussions, the audience is invited to provide the GENERA teams with their views about activities of a future GENERA network for long-term monitoring of gender equality in the physics community.
