Description

The objective of the Einstein Telescope is to build a large-scale research infrastructure that will be the next generation gravitational wave detector for further scientific research of the cosmos. The Einstein Telescope is adopted in the 2021 European roadmap for research Infrastructures (ESFRI). Since 2018 research institutes from Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands have cooperated towards a case for a bid to host the Einstein Telescope in the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. This started with the signing of the Cooperation Agreement (MoU) and research and innovation projects like ETpathfinder, E-TEST and ET2SME’s.

In the meeting we will present and discuss the status of the Einstein Telescope, as a European project, the involvement of EMR scientists and the progress towards an ET-EMR roadmap on R&D activities.

The starting point for such an EMR research and development agenda would be to draw up a landscape analysis; being a clear starting point with regard the following:

  • The current status of R&D projects in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, with regard to ET instrumentation technology development;
  • The involvement of institutes in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands in the European Einstein Telescope collaboration.

We have invited the MoU partners of the EMR region to contribute.

In the meeting of 28 March we anticipate to discuss the R&D landscape, the strengths and the opportunities to move forward. We also would like to share views on what next steps to take and how to coordinate our efforts towards a strong case for hosting the Einstein Telescope. This includes further steps to strengthen our partnership with industry and governments.

Please register to participate in the event.
