I was fortunate to attend the first European Cosmic Ray Symposium, held in Lodz, Poland, in 1968 during the Cold War. The meeting was organised by Arnold Wolfendale and Wlodzimierz Zawadzki to create an opportunity for cosmic ray physicists from the Western and Eastern blocks to meet.
