GWFP Seminar - What you always wanted to know about Science Communication.

Europe/Amsterdam
Description

Speaker: Tim Hiert

About the speaker: Project Leader Science and Society at Maastricht University Tim Hiert leads the Connection Lab at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Within  Connection Lab, he develops strategies and programmes aimed at embedding science communication into academic careers on a structural level. For instance, he directs the year-long SciCom Incubator programme, where researchers develop their own projects with seedfunds and learn to leverage science communication strategically for societal impact. Outside of his work at the university, Tim is one of the voices shaping the national conversation about the recognition and rewards of science communication. He advocates policies that encourage and reward societal engagement in career paths. He is driven by the conviction that science is even more powerful when science and society meet in an equal and open dialogue.

Is science communication merely the act of explaining your results, or is it an exercise in understanding the society that funds and utilizes them? This session invites you to look beyond 'filling knowledge gaps' and explore the shift toward reflexive dialogue. Join the discussion on the evolving science communication paradigm, and determine how these systemic shifts impact you.
