COLLOQUIUM: "Naturalness without fine-tuning: a solution to the hierarchy problem of particle physics" by Sander Mooij (Nikhef)

Europe/Amsterdam
Description

We argue there would be nothing "unnatural" about a possible large hierarchy between the electroweak scale (about 100 GeV) and the energy scale of new physics beyond the Standard Model. We do so by proposing a new computation of the quantum corrections to the Higgs mass in such a "hierarchical" setup. Our findings seem very relevant for both theorists and experimentalists, as they show that the usual naturalness argument should not be used as a motivation for the existence new physics.
