Many composers have used mathematics in their work, but what happens when a composer decides to represent the meaning of mathematical objects and the sensations that can be found in them, instead of focusing on their direct application or translation? My work answers this question by creating a bridge between the metaphors of mathematics and the ones of music.
In this seminar, I will present my compositional methodology, which focuses on the creation of musical metaphors of mathematical groups analyzed through the lenses of violence and purity. I will discuss the working process for the piece D3=<Gentleman, Jack>, one of the first applications of my methodology, and the SO(3) ETUDES, whose meta-mathematical framework was developed in collaboration with mathematicians Raf Bocklandt and Eric Opdam from the University of Amsterdam.
