The application of effective field theory (EFT) methods in nuclear physics has gained widespread attention over the last thirty years. In particular, EFTs for nuclear physics offer a connection to the underlying theory of quantum chromodyamics through chiral symmetry. However, additional information on the structure of nuclear EFTs can be gained from enhanced symmetries that arise in the large-Nc limit, Nc being the number of colors. I will discuss some applications of the large-Nc limit for nuclear forces and currents within and beyond the Standard Model.
