Abstract: I discuss the use of flavour physics in the search for effects from beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. After a general introduction and motivation, I will discuss the status of our theoretical understanding and the tools to be used in ``precision flavour physics". Finally, I will discuss the current status of the flavour sector of the Standard Model and give an outlook.
